From exhaust to soundbar, Porsche-style

Now here’s a soundbar with a difference, and an exclusive one at that. Porsche Design has created the Porsche 911 Soundbar Black Edition – a limited edition model of which only 911 will be produced.

The soundbar is based on the actual rear silencer and tailpipe cover of Porsche’s 911 GT3 sports car, which has been transformed into a virtual 2.1 soundbar, complete with Helmholtz resonator to boost low-frequency performance.

The soundbar boasts 200 watts of system power, with virtual surround provided by Dolby Digital and DTS TruSurround signal processing. It uses Bluetooth with aptX technology to ensure seamless wireless audio streaming, but will also accept analogue and digital source signals.

The soundbar’s bass drivers are housed in the actual silencer, while the remaining speakers are located in the plinth on which the silencer is mounted. A remote control is included in the package.

The soundbar goes on sale in October at a retail price of 3 500 Euro – that’s around R58 000, depending on the exchange rate.
