Musical Fidelity designer joins new owners

The future of Musical Fidelity, which was sold to Austrian audio company Pro-ject Audio Systems by founder Anthony Michaelson last year, has been further assured with confirmation that long-time MF designer, Simon Quarry, has joined the Pro-Ject team.

When the sale was announced in May last year, Pro-Ject CEO Heinz Lichtenegger gave the assurance that Musical Fidelity would continue as a separate entity. The expectation since has been that the brand’s model line-up would be trimmed, with MF’s higher-end products being retained to better dovetail with Pro-Ject’s own electronics.

Quarry’s recruitment not only entrenches the Musical Fidelity brand’s existence as a separate entity, but also suggests that Pro-Ject intends to continue the development of new MF products. No doubt, Quarry’s expertise will also benefit future Pro-Ject products.

Pro-Ject is perhaps best known for its extensive line-up turntables, tonearms and cartridges, but also produces a wide range of affordable electronics, including amplifiers, headphone amplifiers, phono stages and DACs.

Musical Fidelity continues to be represented and distributed by Cinema Architects in South Africa.
