McIntosh enters the custom install space

US high-end audio brand McIntosh is targeting the custom install market with a new range of multi-channel distribution amps, as well as in-ceiling and in-wall loudspeakers.

The new MI254 and MI128 distribution amps employ closed-loop digital switching Class D amplifier modules. The cool running amps require no fans and feature high-capacity power supplies in install-friendly compact enclosures that are rack-mountable.

The four-channel MI254 is rated at 250 watts/channel, while the eight-channel MI128 delivers 120 watts/channel. Unsurprisingly, both feature McIntosh’s traditional, blue-lit watt meters. Other features include signal overload protection, BUS inputs and outputs, 12V triggering and on/off signal sensing.

The new McIntosh in-wall speakers a sealed-enclosure designs with shallow woofers employing long-throw motor systems and moulded carbon-reinforced cones. They’re accompanied by 51 mm midrange drivers and 19 mm tweeters. Power handling capacity is 250 watts.
